Dressing To Be Cool
Spring is finally here, and designers are in full swing, and knockoffs are racing to get the latest in stores before their competitors. And in my part of the country, spring means summer is just around the corner. We jump from the ’40s during the day to the ’80s and apparently better overnight. Phew! A little hard on the body, so summer clothes are really a matter of balance between couture and comfort. Some of the summer dresses are very cheeky – bulky, eye-catching prints, some are also available in a retro look for boho fans.
I’m in the process of cleaning and completely replacing my summer dresses. Many of them are old favorites, and I mean old, and this year is the year that they will be retired from service without any more twists or turns. Less mess, girls. Better foot forward!
In the midst of the casual business, the party dresses, the fancy wedding, the beaches will call. I have to go with the white jeans, the sexiest shorts I can find, the bikinis and monokinis that Brazilians seem to have a great grip on, and the cool, fresh look of a real summer dress that says it all. Where are those magical objects that mean so much and don’t necessarily cost a fortune? I would add, the ease of use. I travel a lot, so I need clothes that can hold up… that comes out of a bag and look beautiful and cool as mint?
Summer shoes are something else again. Of the big names, there are some beautiful, elegant sandals with crazy heels. They’re totally awesome, and it almost doesn’t matter what they wear! They’ll steal the show! And tons of platforms, wedges, floors made of everything from shiny metal to cork and braided straps. You name it… they’re available. Of course, there’s a lot of junk underneath all that. Choose these party dresses very carefully.
I love hats on the beach. You know those big, floppy things you have to look under to reveal your identity! Crushing and forgiving, of course. And then the accessories: super wide and narrow belts, bulky bags and slings. So we have one or two big shopping projects ahead of us. I’m going to find out about the pier, but I’m going to do a lot of my research online. The Internet is great, but often the cliché and pixels online are quite misleading, and you still have to go to the store to find the really matching accessories. Some stores are much better than others in terms of range, price, and especially service. You know the one I’ve always had the most success with is Nordstrom’s. The staff there is amazing and extremely courteous and helpful. No, I don’t get paid for this free ad!
