How to Wear Summer Dresses in the Winter
Stations come and go. They change and bring with them a climate that forces us to change parts of our lifestyles. One of the most noticeable changes is the change in clothing, wearing habits, and dress. For about three months of the year, seasonal clothing is stored and kept in closets to make room for the most up-to-date clothing. This can put a strain on the budget. Clothes are separated and only worn at certain times, rather than all year round. Not only that, they can also go out of style if you are willing to wear them again at that time of year.
As with the seasons, this situation can change. What if summer dresses could be worn in winter as well? Summer dresses are designed to be worn in summer, hence the name, but with a little creativity and insight, summer dresses can be worn in winter out of season.
Summer and winter, hot and cold: two opposite seasons, two completely different types of weather. How do you reconcile the two? Simply by layering warm clothes on top of each other that can be worn in the cold. This not only makes your wardrobe versatile and appropriate to the seasons but also challenges you to make bold and interesting moves to make your inner fashionista shine. You don’t have to hide under bulky layers of clothing forced by the cold of winter. Add a little sunshine to your clothes by including summer dresses in the mix. Here are some ways you can wear summer dresses in the winter.
Wear cardigans over your dress. Long cardigans cover the waist and hips to keep the body warm enough, while open style sweaters allow you to see through the summer dress. They give a fresh look to an otherwise boring suit. For dresses with short skirts, keep your legs warm by wearing leggings and tights. The muted gray and blue of winter, as opposed to the strong reds and yellows of summer, create a striking contrast. With plain summer dresses, you can also use patterned leggings to create the same contrasting effect.
The right summer dress over dark jeans is a modern way of showing off. It not only repels the cold but also keeps you elegant. Along with comfortable boots, it can be an everyday look that can be worn to class or to run errands in the city. For a nightly look, swap the boots for high-heeled ones that are good enough for club hours. Wear sweaters and thick coats, while underneath all your clothes you’ll have a colorful sundress.
Put summer dresses with fur on top of each one. Fur-lined vests make a nice accent to pastel-colored dresses while keeping you warm like a rabbit. Fur-lined scarves and hats complete the look. This creates a nice contrast between feminine and masculine elements that are not often seen elsewhere. Be unique and stand out from the crowd by combining leathers with pastel colors.
A simple white sundress can be worn to complement the metallic colors of winter. Combine colorful summer dresses with raincoats and layer them with scarves, gloves, leggings, and socks. Colorful summer dresses can go a long way toward keeping your wardrobe from looking drab in the winter months. They add a spark to a dull color palette. A good way to have a great summer floral dress in the winter is to wear a cool denim jacket, a light-colored scarf, and knee-length boots.
Knitted sweaters with designs can be worn over colorful summer dresses to give a warmer feeling. Maxi summer dresses can also be worn, and pantyhose can be worn underneath for extra warmth. The length keeps drafts away from your legs while keeping you elegantly dressed. Wearing boots with summer dresses effectively transfers them to the winter wardrobe. Short skirts go well with knee-length boots, while the longer version is more suitable for boots.
Add them to maximize the look of the layers. Hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, coats, jackets, wraps, and scarves all have a cold-resistant effect. With the right number of layers, sundresses can look amazing. Wear sleeveless dresses over long-sleeved shirts for a unique and eclectic look. Wear two summer dresses together, one on top of the other, for a different layered look. Give new life to old winter dresses by using a belt from a summer dress as a headband to accentuate your hair. Wear scarves to fasten layered dresses around your waist. Wear a warm sweater under a wide sundress with a fashionable silhouette; combine flowing dresses with long sweaters and raincoats for a summer and winter feel; light fabrics in contrast to heavy, even thick fabrics make an interesting mix.
Tight dresses with a sexier style (high neck, backless, low neckline), can be worn as tops with jeans and/or pants and can be worn under leather jackets for a sexier outfit. Knitted or lace scarves can be combined with dresses to maintain a feminine feel. Flower print dresses and black sweaters give a feminine, classic and sober touch.
Whatever style you choose, don’t be afraid to make unusual choices. They may not be mainstream, but they give you a uniqueness that can never be copied by everyone else. Be creative and choose colors that contrast and complement each other for a bolder look. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t use the colors of summer. On the other hand, it gives you the opportunity to stand out and be noticed, which in turn makes you, as the wearer, stand out as well. Pushing the limits of what can and cannot be done with the name of fashion. Explore ways to blend the season’s fashion trends into an exciting and eclectic look that’s all yours. Create your own style and make the most of your wardrobe without breaking the bank.
