Ideas For a 70’s Fancy Dress Party
If you’re thinking of a theme party and want to have something that all the guests can enjoy, how about a 70s costume?
Sometimes when people throw a theme party, they can be a little restrictive in their choice of costume, but with a 70s carnival costume, it’s not a problem. If you think about the ’70s (when you’re old enough to remember them…), it won’t be long before you realize how many different costumes are available. The seventies went through many different stages, from hippies in caftans and bell-bottoms to the last days of gold medals and the disco look immortalized by the Bee Gees. By the end of the decade, there was in fact a whole series of changes. The choice of costumes from the 1970s is truly immense.
There are some things that embody the decade that is quite essential in the choice of clothing. Think of things that were very popular with people, like “bell-bottoms,” oversized sunglasses, and chops. Platform shoes are another popular choice for 70s costumes, as are “glam-rock” suits worn by people like Slade, The Sweet, Mud, and David Bowie (when he was in his ziggy-stardust phase). There are also some great wigs available to help you complete your look. Be sure to remember the loud flared collared shirts. You can get great wardrobe ideas by watching some old clips of singers or TV shows from that era. Another truly iconic suit that is always a popular choice when it comes to 70’s suits is the studded white catsuit by Elvis Presley. Don’t be surprised if more than one of your guests arrive in this costume…
Depending on how much work you want to put in, there are some typical “retro” activities you can integrate into your 70s costumes. You could organize a couple of games like “Twister” and “Ker-Plunk” and “Space Hopper” races. A quick glance through the internet will soon remind you of many other games, toys, and hobbies from the seventies that you could use for your event.
The most important thing about your party is that you and your guests have fun. There are all kinds of things you can do with it, and it should be a lot of fun. Even if you decide to keep your party relatively simple, it will still be something that most people will enjoy. There were some really ridiculous fads back then, and seeing a group of friends and family in these costumes should be a fun and entertaining experience.
