Fancy Dress – Be a 70s Pop Star

Carnival parties are always a lot of fun, no matter how old you are. Today there is a huge revival of the 1970s that is popular with all age groups, whether they have experienced this decade for the first time or not. The ’70s costume is a perfect party theme, and because it was such a vibrant decade with so much going on, you can never commit to an idea. The 1970s brought some outrageous costumes, from thigh-high PVC boots and 10-inch platform shoes to huge afro wigs and bell-bottoms.

If you want, you can be a pop star for one night and dance with your favorite singer at the disco. Today there are so many great 70’s costumes to choose from. You can order a complete suit from an online store or visit a specialty store in your city. Otherwise, you can improvise by mixing and matching used or vintage clothes. Good places to look are the local market, car boot sales, thrift stores, or charity shops. eBay and other auction sites are also excellent sources for replicas or real-life souvenirs of the 1970s. You may have to change or adapt your costume, but with a little imagination and inventiveness, you can find an excellent and authentic costume. Seventies costume accessories are available in many stores where you can buy anything you want, such as wigs, PVC boots, white fishnet stockings, glitter hair bands, wooden beads, and more. If you buy your ’70s costume at a specialized costume shop, you have the advantage of being able to buy the whole “look” in one place, so you don’t have to search in several places for all the little things or accessories to match. Another advantage is that today’s costume shops can offer a wide range of sizes, from children’s sizes too large sizes, so there’s something for everyone.

Whether you’re into disco dancing or heavy rocking, there’s sure to be a character with a musical theme you can dress up as. If you’re looking for a simple 70s costume idea, how about you and a few friends dressing up as Status Quo members? All you need are white shirts, denim vests, tight jeans, big belt buckles, and fake ponytails – don’t forget your guitars! Glam-rock fans would rather keep their homemade British costumes and dress like Slade’s Noddy Holder in a yellow checkered jacket and a shameless top hat. Or you could be a Bay City Roller in a white jacket and medium pants in tartan, David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust phase or a member of the Showaddywaddy in a brightly colored stuffed boy suit. Just make sure you get the glitter, microphone, and guitar for the suit, and most importantly, think about the accessories, because only the finishing touches will make your ’70s suit look truly authentic.
